Unlock It

1. Click the “start” button.

2. Click “Turn Off Computer.”

3. Click the “Restart” button. After Windows shuts down and your computer restarts, start pressing the F8 key on your keyboard. On a computer that is configured for booting to multiple operating systems, you can press the F8 key when the Boot Menu appears.

4. Press the up arrow key on your keyboard until “Safe Mode” is highlighted. Press “Enter.”

5. Use the up and down arrow keys to highlight the operating system you are trying to secure, then press “Enter” (in this case, there is only one).

6. Click on the “Administrator” username (assuming you are the owner and know the password, if there is one). If the account is password protected, and you do not know the password, contact your administrator. Otherwise, if your regular user account shows up on this screen, you may use it. If there is a password, type it in, then press “Enter.”

7. Click “Yes” to proceed in safe mode.

8. Click “Start.”

9. Click “My Computer.”

10. Open “Local Disk (C:)” by double-clicking; or by right-clicking, then left-clicking “Open.”

11. Open “WINDOWS.”

12. Right-click on the “system32” folder, then left-click “Properties.”

13. Click the “Security” tab.

14. Click to highlight the username whose account you wish to unlock.

15. Check the first “Allow” checkbox (corresponds with “Full Control”). The whole column will be automatically checked.

16. Click “Apply.”

17. Click “OK.” If you previously locked the drivers folder, you should unlock it as well. Open "system32" by double-clicking, then repeat steps 12 through 17 on "drivers."

18. Close Windows Explorer by clicking the “X” button.

19. Click “Start.”

20. Click “Turn Off Computer.”

21. Click “Restart.”

22. Right-click the Arovax Shield icon in the system tray (looks like a helmet at the time of this publication).

23. Click “Open.”

24. Click the ON/OFF toggle switch in the upper-right-hand corner to deactivate protection. (Note: Protection may be automatically reactivated upon reboot, so you will need to disable it again if you wish to continue making changes or installing/uninstalling programs.)

25. Close the Arovax Shield user interface by clicking the “X” button. Now you can install new programs and make system-wide changes as you please.
