Text Comments in German Glossary Files for Uploaded Translation

I do not see the files in the German_Vetted folder on FTP. Did you upload the files there?

To upload files, in right window of Total Commander you choose files in the folder where they are saved on your computer, and drag them to the left window of Total Commander where is open the German_Vetted folder on FTP.

Please let me know wen files are uploaded.

I have just sent my next file to (German_10001_09_DEU_g). I found two terms in the main1 dictionary that I haven‚´t applied on my text.

The first term I suspect a mistake is “White Tiger‚´s Beard” which was given as “Weiser Tiger-Perle”. I translated this into “Weiser Tigers Bart”. I believe previous

translators confusion came up by mixing up “Beard” with “Bead”.

The second term was “Level” given as “Level”, but in medi-evil speaking AND in context I had to translate it with “Ebene” (context: spiritual level in meditation).

Apart from these two terms I stuck and still stick to consistency as instructed. Please inform me if this wasn‚´t the correct.

4) there were “lost” hyphens in the end of few sentences in 15b, this should also be spotted. Actually, any difference form the source. After will take additional look at the files I will send them to you to see what are the issues which needed to be spotted in addition of the mentioned before. I understand that it’s possible that instructions were not clear enough on this point.

When you find an issue like above, mark the cell red and add a comment (also a message to me with all comments when uploading the file, just as you did). If there are lot of problems, let me know ASAP and we will return the file to proofreaders.

3) Please watch also for other issues which would dissatisfy the client – lacking periods (where there is a period in the source), or obvious missing capitalization in the beginning of the sentence, lacking space between sentences etc. There wereLOTof these issues in your first file, you should have spotted them. It doesn’t require German. I understand that it’s possible that instructions were not clear enough on this point.

4) there were “lost” hyphens in the end of few sentences in some files (not yours), this should also be spotted. Actually, any difference form the source. After will take additional look at the files I will send them to you to see what are the issues which needed to be spotted in addition of the mentioned before.

Additionally, one translator is asking if there is any consensus how to translate “yard” (measurement). Additionally, he has 2 abbreviations: AP andLV.Do you know what they mean? If yes, is there an agreed common translation for them?

This is a problem: Might is of course Macht/Starke/etc., but might is kunnte. The software in its standard settings

does not heed upper and lower case when inserting. Therefore, because it would lead to big problems if we had the

duplicate entry Might/might, I decided to leave Might in there and have translators (sorry for that) change it if

the meaning is incorrect.

I have found that sometimes we have “three dots” as one sign (results of auto substitution?) in an original text

while in a translated text this corresponds to mere three dots. Only the latter could be scanned as a “dot” (dot + dot + dot).

Is this difference is critical?

When vetting, our middle name is “Stick To Source”. So even if there are 5 suspension points in the source instead of the classical three, we make sure target is same.

One of the glossary terms seems to have been mistranslated.

In the glossary, the French equivalent of Wanderers’ Gallse is La fille du vagabonde, but it makes no sense in the segment I am translating:

If you kill some Deadpool Wanderers and swallow the Wanderers’ Galls to try out their medicinal effects for me, I’ll tell you how to drive the Abyssal Vipers awaye

I think a more appropriate translation would be bile du vagabonde.

I will take a look at the files. But if you find a +, this cell needs to be marked red, and you should comment to me which cell it was. During the translation process translators were marking with + any segment/term they were not sure about. Therefore if + remained in the target, we have to send the file back to proofreader.

I think it is very clear form the context you have that “Wanderers’ Galls” means “bile/bile stones of the Wanderers”, not the “girl”. Translate according to the context, I will pass this to proofreader.

While translating I have come across a few terms in the glossary, that did not sound very nice or made little sense

in the context.

“ValleyofAbandon” – at the moment: Aufgeben-Tal. I would suggest Verlassenes Tal, just simply because people do not seem

to give up in the valley, but that is it abandoned.

“Mount” – translated as “Reittier”, which means horselike animal (?), and I would rather say “Gipfel” or “Berg”.

“Laguna Collective” – translated as “Lagunen-Kollektive”, which sounds very business-like. I would suggest “Lagunen-Gruppe” or so…

“Spiked Wine” – translated as “Gluhwein” (“mulled wine”, oh no!), which should probably be “vergifteter Wein”

I just got started (had to finish a previous project that lasted more than expected, but isn’t that always the case)

Per ‘s instructions, here is a translation sample. I also had 3 questions for you:

1= The file sent me already has a few segments translated, should I edit these translations if they are wrong, or let them as is for the proofreader? I want to make sure I get credit for it or/and am not charged for the correction or screw up the process.

2= There are a lot of characters and places names that are not in the dictionary but I feel that we should be consistent with. Is there another resource somewhere for those terms? i.e. Archlord, Foxhill, Vier Blood Matrix etc.

3= I noticed that the – is treated by removing the space between the 2 words: for instance voulezvous instead of voulez-vous. Is that the way to go?

I have some comments regarding consistency for the lead translator.

There seems to be some confusion with the terms Doom Boge and Deadpoole.

In the glossary, Doom Boge is consistently referred to as Marais Maudite, while Deadpoole is sometimes referred to as Marais Maudite ( Deadpool Wanderere Voyageur du Marais Maudite) but also as etang des mortse ( Deadpool Horrorse Horreurs de l’etang des mortse).

It might be less confusing to choose one consistent translation for Deadpoole.

I would like to inform you that I’ve uploaded new instructions to the CS. There is one more step we would like PMs to do prior to vetting. All info is in the file. Additionally, I would like you to give a try with first two files to vet against the Origins (and to compare against the non proofread files).

You will download them with the zip folder 15_all_after.proofread_wave2.zip for the first step. The source files I uploaded to server as well, this is the Origins folder on the server. Files there are already renamed, and there is no need to rename them again.

Please download the Origins, the Proofread files and the non proofread ant try to follow the instructions.

Is it not too much chaotic? Please let me know if it is, I will try to explain better. Please keep in mind that I live on GMT+6, so if you ask me a question in the evening, I might be right in the middle of the night, and you will see my response on the next day. It is not a rush, I would like you to take your time and report on the progress/questions.
