RO 13:12 So let us put aside the deeds of darkness and put on the armor of
light. [13] Let us behave decently, as in the daytime, not in orgies and
drunkenness, not in sexual immorality and debauchery, not in dissension and
jealousy. [14] Rather, clothe yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ, and do
not think about how to gratify the desires of the sinful nature.
1CO 6:9 Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of
God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor
adulterers nor male prostitutes nor homosexual offenders [10] nor thieves nor
the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom
of God. [11] And that is what some of you were. But you were washed, you were
sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the
Spirit of our God.
1CO 6:12 "Everything is permissible for me"--but not everything is
beneficial. "Everything is permissible for me"--but I will not be mastered by
anything. [13] "Food for the stomach and the stomach for food"--but God will
destroy them both. The body is not meant for sexual immorality, but for the
Lord, and the Lord for the body. [14] By his power God raised the Lord from
the dead, and he will raise us also. [15] Do you not know that your bodies are
members of Christ himself? Shall I then take the members of Christ and unite
them with a prostitute? Never! [16] Do you not know that he who unites himself
with a prostitute is one with her in body? For it is said, "The two will
become one flesh." [17] But he who unites himself with the Lord is one with
him in spirit.
1CO 6:18 Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a man commits are
outside his body, but he who sins sexually sins against his own body. [19] Do
you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you,
whom you have received from God? You are not your own; [20] you were bought at
a price. Therefore honor God with your body.
1CO 7:1 Now for the matters you wrote about: It is good for a man not to
marry. [2] But since there is so much immorality, each man should have his own
wife, and each woman her own husband. [3] The husband should fulfill his
marital duty to his wife, and likewise the wife to her husband. [4] The wife's
body does not belong to her alone but also to her husband. In the same way,
the husband's body does not belong to him alone but also to his wife. [5] Do
not deprive each other except by mutual consent and for a time, so that
you may devote yourselves to prayer. Then come together again so that
Satan will not tempt you because of your lack of self-control. [6] I say this
as a concession, not as a command. [7] I wish that all men were as I am. But
each man has his own gift from God; one has this gift, another has that.
1CO 7:8 Now to the unmarried and the widows I say: It is good for them to
stay unmarried, as I am. [9] But if they cannot control themselves, they
should marry, for it is better to marry than to burn with passion.
GAL 5:13 You, my brothers, were called to be free. But do not use your
freedom to indulge the sinful nature; rather, serve one another in love. [14]
The entire law is summed up in a single command: "Love your neighbor as
yourself." [15] If you keep on biting and devouring each other, watch out or
you will be destroyed by each other.
GAL 5:16 So I say, live by the Spirit, and you will not
gratify the desires of the sinful nature. [17] For the sinful nature desires
what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the sinful
nature. They are in conflict with each other, so that you do not do what you
want. [18] But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under law.
GAL 5:19 The acts of the sinful nature are obvious: sexual immorality,
impurity and debauchery; [20] idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord,
jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions [21] and envy;
drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who
live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.
GAL 5:22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience,
kindness, goodness, faithfulness, [23] gentleness and self-control. Against
such things there is no law. [24] Those who belong to Christ Jesus have
crucified the sinful nature with its passions and desires. [25] Since we live
by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit.
COL 3:1 Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on
things above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God. [2] Set your
minds on things above, not on earthly things. [3] For you died, and your life
is now hidden with Christ in God. [4] When Christ, who is your life, appears,
then you also will appear with him in glory.
COL 3:5 Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature:
sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and greed, which is idolatry.
1TH 4:1 Finally, brothers, we instructed you how to live in order to please
God, as in fact you are living. Now we ask you and urge you in the Lord Jesus
to do this more and more. [2] For you know what instructions we gave you by
the authority of the Lord Jesus.
1TH 4:3 It is God's will that you should be sanctified: that you should
avoid sexual immorality; [4] that each of you should learn to control his own
body in a way that is holy and honorable, [5] not in passionate lust like the
heathen, who do not know God; [6] and that in this matter no one should wrong
his brother or take advantage of him. The Lord will punish men for all such
sins, as we have already told you and warned you. [7] For God did not call us
to be impure, but to live a holy life. [8] Therefore, he who rejects this
instruction does not reject man but God, who gives you his Holy Spirit.
In summation, I would say that it is important to focus on the narrow gates,
to walk down the long path of life, not to stray to the left or to the right,
down the broad path leading to destruction. To be able to focus that far ahead,
you have to focus your vision and not let yourself get distracted.
For me, the message essentially tells me that its a matter of focus and, to
maintain your focus, you need the restraint (for example, bodily control) to not
let yourself get distracted from your goal.
This applies, as you can see from the scripture, even if you ARE married. You
could be married and have a nice house etc. etc., but if you are not focused on
the path, you could very well be missing the entire point.
I would therefore like to reduce my response to encourage you to concentrate
on focus.
Hopefully I have shed some helpful light on this matter for you.
